The ARRI / Zeiss Master Anamorphic lenses are premium PL-mount cinema lenses designed to deliver a cinematic 2x anamorphic squeeze while maintaining excellent contrast, minimal focus breathing, and superb color reproduction—even at their fast T1.9 aperture.
Designed for Super 35 sensors, these lenses provide an image circle of up to approximately 29.26mm. They produce a clean, high-contrast image with exceptionally low distortion and very little breathing. Developed through a collaboration between ARRI and Zeiss, the Master Anamorphic series was created to meet the demanding requirements of high-end anamorphic cinematography. Simply put, you’ve found la crème de la crème.
Like traditional anamorphic optics, these lenses squeeze a wider field of view onto the camera sensor (or, historically, film), which is then de-squeezed to create the final widescreen image. The Master Anamorphics do this exceptionally well. Oval bokeh and characteristic anamorphic flares are present but refined and controlled, with the standard Master Anamorphic flare characteristics producing subtle, dreamy blue streaks rather than an overly stylized look.
Master Anamorphic lenses feature ARRI’s PL mount and Lens Data System (LDS), allowing compatible cameras to receive accurate lens metadata. This can be particularly useful for VFX workflows, lens tracking, and maintaining consistency throughout production and post-production.
The real achievement of the Master Anamorphics is their ability to reproduce color and contrast with remarkable accuracy in a relatively compact anamorphic design, while keeping distortion and focus breathing to an absolute minimum. Their cleaner, more controlled character makes them particularly well suited to demanding shots where predictable optical performance is essential.
The lenses are designed around the classic 2.39:1 anamorphic widescreen format on Super 35 cameras. However, their approximately 29.26mm image circle may not cover every Super 35 sensor or recording mode completely, so coverage should be confirmed for the specific camera and format being used.
Focal Lengths: 35mm, 50mm, 75mm, 100mm
T-Stop Range: T1.9-T22
